|---|---|---|
| Geodude | Lv. 12 | Rock Ground |
| Geodude | Lv. 12 | Rock Ground |
| Nosepass | Lv. 15 | Rock |
Use Water, Grass, or Fighting types. Mudkip trivializes this gym. If you picked Torchic, catch a Lotad or Wingull early. Watch out: Nosepass has Rock Tomb which lowers Speed.
| Pokémon | Level | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Machop | Lv. 16 | Fighting |
| Meditite | Lv. 16 | Fighting Psychic |
| Makuhita | Lv. 19 | Fighting |
Use Flying or Psychic types. Taillow or Wingull are your best options. Danger: Makuhita has Bulk Up — do NOT let it set up more than once or it will sweep your team.
| Pokémon | Level | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Voltorb | Lv. 20 | Electric |
| Electrike | Lv. 20 | Electric |
| Magneton | Lv. 22 | Electric Steel |
| Manectric | Lv. 24 | Electric |
Use Ground types — they are completely immune to Electric. Marshtomp or Geodude make this gym free. Danger: Voltorb knows Selfdestruct and WILL use it. Do NOT leave a low-HP Pokémon in against it. Magneton is Electric/Steel so Ground is 4× effective.
| Pokémon | Level | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Numel | Lv. 24 | Fire Ground |
| Slugma | Lv. 24 | Fire |
| Camerupt | Lv. 26 | Fire Ground |
| Torkoal | Lv. 29 | Fire |
Use Water or Ground types. Marshtomp is the MVP here — Water + Ground hits everything super effectively. Danger: Torkoal's Overheat hits incredibly hard on the first use, but lowers its Sp.Atk afterward. Survive the first Overheat and you win. Numel and Camerupt are 4× weak to Water.
| Pokémon | Level | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Spinda | Lv. 27 | Normal |
| Vigoroth | Lv. 27 | Normal |
| Linoone | Lv. 29 | Normal |
| Slaking | Lv. 31 | Normal |
Use Fighting types. Hariyama or Machoke are ideal. THE HARDEST GYM IN EMERALD. Slaking has enormous Attack and knows Facade. Do NOT burn or paralyze it — Facade doubles in power with status conditions. Exploit Slaking's Truant ability: it loafs every other turn. Use Protect on its attack turns, then hit hard on its Truant turns.
| Pokémon | Level | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Swablu | Lv. 29 | Normal |
| Tropius | Lv. 29 | Grass |
| Pelipper | Lv. 30 | Water |
| Skarmory | Lv. 31 | Steel |
| Altaria | Lv. 33 | Dragon |
Use Electric, Ice, or Rock types. This is a diverse team — no single type beats everything. Danger: Altaria knows Dragon Dance. If it sets up even once, it can sweep your entire team. Prioritize taking Altaria down fast with Ice moves. Skarmory is very bulky physically — use Special attacks.
| Pokémon | Level | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Claydol | Lv. 41 | Ground Psychic |
| Xatu | Lv. 41 | Psychic |
| Solrock | Lv. 42 | Rock Psychic |
| Lunatone | Lv. 42 | Rock Psychic |
This is a Double Battle. Use Dark, Water, or Ghost types. Sharpedo with Crunch is excellent. Danger: Claydol has Earthquake which hits both your Pokémon AND its ally — position carefully. Solrock and Lunatone can use Cosmic Power to become very tanky. Take them down fast before they set up.
| Pokémon | Level | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Luvdisc | Lv. 41 | Water |
| Whiscash | Lv. 41 | Water Ground |
| Sealeo | Lv. 43 | Ice Water |
| Crawdaunt | Lv. 43 | Water Dark |
| Kingdra | Lv. 46 | Water Dragon |
Use Grass or Electric types. Major Danger: Kingdra has Water/Dragon typing, meaning its only weakness is Dragon. It also knows Rest to heal. This is one of the toughest fights in Emerald. Whiscash is 4× weak to Grass. Bring a Pokémon with Toxic for Kingdra if you lack Dragon moves.
| Pokémon | Level | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Mightyena | Lv. 46 | Dark |
| Cacturne | Lv. 46 | Grass Dark |
| Shiftry | Lv. 48 | Grass Dark |
| Sharpedo | Lv. 48 | Water Dark |
| Absol | Lv. 49 | Dark |
Use Fighting or Bug types. Most of Sidney's team is frail. Hariyama with Brick Break can sweep. Cacturne and Shiftry are 4× weak to Bug.
| Pokémon | Level | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Dusclops | Lv. 48 | Ghost |
| Banette | Lv. 49 | Ghost |
| Sableye | Lv. 50 | Dark Ghost |
| Banette | Lv. 49 | Ghost |
| Dusclops | Lv. 51 | Ghost |
Use Dark types. Normal and Fighting moves do NOT work on Ghosts. A Pokémon with Shadow Ball or Crunch is essential. Danger: Dusclops are very bulky and know Confuse Ray + Pressure. Sableye in Gen 3 has NO weaknesses (Fairy type didn't exist yet).
| Pokémon | Level | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Sealeo | Lv. 50 | Ice Water |
| Glalie | Lv. 50 | Ice |
| Sealeo | Lv. 52 | Ice Water |
| Glalie | Lv. 52 | Ice |
| Walrein | Lv. 53 | Ice Water |
Use Fighting, Electric, or Rock types. Don't rely solely on Grass — Ice hits Grass super effectively. Danger: Walrein is extremely bulky with Ice Body. Bring Electric types for the Sealeo/Walrein Water combo.
| Pokémon | Level | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Shelgon | Lv. 52 | Dragon |
| Altaria | Lv. 54 | Dragon |
| Flygon | Lv. 53 | Ground Dragon |
| Flygon | Lv. 53 | Ground Dragon |
| Salamence | Lv. 55 | Dragon |
Use Ice — it's the key to this fight. Ice Beam on a fast Pokémon (Starmie, Walrein) can sweep most of Drake's team. Danger: Salamence is the biggest threat in the entire Elite Four. Level 55 with Dragon Claw, Flamethrower, Crunch, and Rock Slide. It WILL kill something if you don't have a solid Ice answer.
| Pokémon | Level | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Wailord | Lv. 57 | Water |
| Tentacruel | Lv. 55 | Water Poison |
| Ludicolo | Lv. 56 | Water Grass |
| Whiscash | Lv. 56 | Water Ground |
| Gyarados | Lv. 56 | Water |
| Milotic | Lv. 58 | Water |
No single type beats Wallace's team. You need Electric for most + Grass for Whiscash (4× weak). Biggest Danger: Milotic is extremely bulky, knows Recover, and has Ice Beam to kill Grass types. Bring Toxic or a strong Electric move. Ludicolo resists both Water and Electric — use Poison, Flying, or Bug moves. Gyarados is 4× weak to Electric.
