Brock

Pewter City
RockLevel Cap: 14
PokémonLevelType
GeodudeLv. 12Rock Ground
OnixLv. 14Rock Ground
Nuzlocke Strategy

Use Water or Grass types. Squirtle or Bulbasaur make this trivial. With Charmander, catch a Mankey on Route 22 — Low Kick destroys both. Watch out: Onix has high Defense but terrible Sp.Def, so use special moves. Charmander learns Metal Claw at Lv.13 which is super effective.

#2

Misty

Cerulean City
WaterLevel Cap: 21
PokémonLevelType
StaryuLv. 18Water
StarmieLv. 21Water Psychic
Nuzlocke Strategy

Use Grass or Electric types. Bulbasaur or an Oddish from Route 5 work well. Pikachu from Viridian Forest is excellent. Danger: Starmie is deceptively fast and powerful — it hits hard with Water Pulse which can cause confusion. Do NOT underestimate this fight. Paras with Leech Life + Stun Spore is a great budget counter.

#3

Lt. Surge

Vermilion City
ElectricLevel Cap: 24
PokémonLevelType
VoltorbLv. 21Electric
PikachuLv. 18Electric
RaichuLv. 24Electric
Nuzlocke Strategy

Use Ground types — complete immunity to Electric. Diglett from Diglett's Cave or Geodude from Mt. Moon makes this a free win. Watch out: Voltorb may use Selfdestruct. Raichu hits hard but Ground types wall it completely.

#4

Erika

Celadon City
GrassLevel Cap: 29
PokémonLevelType
VictreebelLv. 29Grass Poison
TangelaLv. 24Grass
VileplumeLv. 29Grass Poison
Nuzlocke Strategy

Use Fire, Flying, Ice, or Psychic types. Charizard, Pidgeotto, or any Fire type sweeps easily. Watch out: Victreebel and Vileplume are Grass/Poison, so Psychic is also super effective. Their Sleep Powder can ruin your run — consider having a Pokémon with Insomnia or using items.

#5

Koga

Fuchsia City
PoisonLevel Cap: 43
PokémonLevelType
KoffingLv. 37Poison
KoffingLv. 37Poison
MukLv. 39Poison
WeezingLv. 43Poison
Nuzlocke Strategy

Use Ground or Psychic types. Kadabra or Hypno with Psychic devastates this gym. Danger: Koffing has Levitate so Ground moves won't work on them — use Psychic instead. Weezing knows Selfdestruct. Muk has high Sp.Def so physical Ground moves are better against it. Bring Antidotes.

#6

Sabrina

Saffron City
PsychicLevel Cap: 43
PokémonLevelType
KadabraLv. 38Psychic
Mr. MimeLv. 37Psychic
VenomothLv. 38Bug Poison
AlakazamLv. 43Psychic
Nuzlocke Strategy

Use Bug, Ghost, or Dark types. ONE OF THE HARDEST GYMS. Alakazam is extremely fast with massive Sp.Atk. Snorlax can tank hits with its huge HP and Sp.Def. Haunter/Gengar with Shadow Ball is the best counter. In Gen 3, Bug moves are mostly physical and weak — Ghost is your best bet. If desperate, a Pokémon with Pursuit can catch Psychic types switching out.

#7

Blaine

Cinnabar Island
FireLevel Cap: 47
PokémonLevelType
GrowlitheLv. 42Fire
PonytaLv. 40Fire
RapidashLv. 42Fire
ArcanineLv. 47Fire
Nuzlocke Strategy

Use Water, Ground, or Rock types. Gyarados, Blastoise, or any Water type sweeps this gym. Danger: Arcanine is the biggest threat — high Attack, fast, and knows Flamethrower. Don't let it use Intimidate to weaken your physical attackers. Special Water moves are ideal.

#8

Giovanni

Viridian City
GroundLevel Cap: 50
PokémonLevelType
RhyhornLv. 45Ground Rock
DugtrioLv. 42Ground
NidoqueenLv. 44Poison Ground
NidokingLv. 45Poison Ground
RhydonLv. 50Ground Rock
Nuzlocke Strategy

Use Water, Grass, or Ice types. Rhyhorn and Rhydon are 4× weak to both Water and Grass — one Surf will KO them. Danger: Dugtrio is extremely fast with Arena Trap (you can't switch out). Nidoking has diverse coverage moves including Thunderbolt. Bring a Water type with high Sp.Atk for the safest clear.

Elite Four

Ice
PokémonLevelType
DewgongLv. 52Water Ice
CloysterLv. 51Water Ice
SlowbroLv. 52Water Psychic
JynxLv. 54Ice Psychic
LaprasLv. 54Water Ice
Strategy

Use Electric or Fighting types. Jolteon or Raichu can handle most of her team. Danger: Lapras is very bulky with high HP. Slowbro is Water/Psychic, not Ice — use Electric or Grass. Don't use Grass types against Jynx (Ice moves will destroy them).

E2

Bruno

Elite Four — Fighting Type
Fighting
PokémonLevelType
OnixLv. 51Rock Ground
HitmonchanLv. 53Fighting
HitmonleeLv. 53Fighting
OnixLv. 54Rock Ground
MachampLv. 56Fighting
Strategy

Use Psychic or Flying types. Alakazam with Psychic can sweep the Fighting types. Danger: Machamp has high Attack and knows Cross Chop. The two Onix are Rock/Ground — use Water or Grass for them, not Psychic. Hitmonlee is fast and can hit hard with Hi Jump Kick.

E3

Agatha

Elite Four — Ghost Type
Ghost
PokémonLevelType
GengarLv. 54Ghost Poison
GolbatLv. 54Poison Flying
HaunterLv. 53Ghost Poison
ArbokLv. 56Poison
GengarLv. 58Ghost Poison
Strategy

Use Ground or Psychic types. All of Agatha's Ghost types are also Poison — so Ground is super effective. Danger: Gengar is fast and knows Hypnosis + Dream Eater combo. If it puts you to sleep, it can heal while damaging you. Bring Awakenings or a Pokémon with Insomnia. Her Lv.58 Gengar is one of the most dangerous Pokémon in the entire Elite Four.

E4

Lance

Elite Four — Dragon Type
Dragon
PokémonLevelType
GyaradosLv. 56Water Flying
DragonairLv. 54Dragon
DragonairLv. 54Dragon
AerodactylLv. 58Rock Flying
DragoniteLv. 60Dragon Flying
Strategy

Use Ice — it's essential for this fight. Ice Beam on anything fast can handle Dragonair and Dragonite (4× weak to Ice). Biggest Danger: Dragonite at Lv.60 is the strongest Pokémon in the Elite Four. It has Outrage, Hyper Beam, and massive stats. One Ice Beam should take it down if your Pokémon is fast enough — if not, it WILL KO something. Gyarados is 4× weak to Electric. Aerodactyl is fast — use Water or Ice.

Champion — Blue (Rival)

Blue

Champion — Mixed Types
Team depends on your starter
PokémonLevelType
PidgeotLv. 59Normal Flying
AlakazamLv. 57Psychic
RhydonLv. 59Ground Rock
GyaradosLv. 59Water Flying
ArcanineLv. 59Fire
ExeggutorLv. 59Grass Psychic
Strategy

Blue's 6th Pokémon depends on your starter: Blastoise (if you chose Bulbasaur), Venusaur (if Charmander), or Charizard (if Squirtle) — replacing one of the above. His team is diverse so no single type wins. Key threats: Alakazam is extremely fast. Rhydon is 4× weak to Water and Grass. Gyarados is 4× weak to Electric. You need a balanced team with Ice, Electric, and Water coverage to handle everything.
